This position is in the Bayou Lafourche Regional Office (BLRO) of the Surveillance Division within the Office of Environmental Compliance.
This position is domiciled in Lafourche Parish.
Incumbent of this position will perform inspections, collect environmental samples, including ambient water sites, conduct environmental monitoring and respond to complaints and environmental incidents in the surrounding parishes in which the regional office service.
Incumbent will assist with preparation and participate in the inspections of major and minor facilities and/or sources within an assigned region for one or more of the following media: air, water, hazardous and solid waste, waste tire generators and processors, asbestos and lead.
Incumbent will perform environmental monitoring to collect ambient air and water data.
Incumbent will participate in special inspections or sampling projects on a statewide basis.
Incumbent will receive training appropriate to their position.
Lower level staff obtain necessary experience and skills to perform inspections and collect environmental data related to compliance issues within a region with guidance from senior Environmental Scientists (mentors), Supervisors and ES Staff.
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Environmental Scientist 1, 2 or 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.
The maximum salary for the Environmental Scientist 3 is $78,582.

Develops skills and assists in the analyses of various environmental samples (air water, wastewater, soils, sediments and aquatic organisms) using various instrumental procedures including atomic absorption spectrophotometry, automated colorimetry, ion chromatography, gas chromatography infrared spectrometry, mass spectroscopy, polarized light microscopy, or scanning electron microscopy.
Develops skills and assists in the required distillation/extraction of environmental samples prior to instrumental analysis, or the preparation and calibration of sampling devises used to collect ambient air samples.
